You will have noticed that dogs like to sniff where they are going to pee, and that's often in a spot that they've chosen as 'theirs' to leave markers for other dogs to find. So getting them to stop amounts to first removing as much evidence as you can of the scent of the dog's own pee and then putting something in its place which doesn't smell good to dogs. You might need a bit of trial and error with that. I've had a good rsult from spraying a mixture of hot pepper sauce and water, but apart from chili pepper, dogs are averse to the smells of vinegar, most kinds of alcohol (though that evaporates quickly outdoors), and citrus. They will also avoid mothballs, but they are poisonous and if used, must be placed where the dog can't get them, or lick them. If none of those appeal, you can buy special dog repellent in sprays.
