Afraid to go to the dentist. I NEED to have one of my impacted wisdom teeth removed, but I'm afraid of the procedure.?

Update:

I'm suppose to get local anesthesia, but I hate needles sticking into my gums. I don't want the gas because too many stories of people not reacting well to it. And I know about IV's, but again that involves more needles. What can I do? What should I expect? I feel like a scared child all over again.

I had a panic attack in the chair at the dentist's office because I was so freaked out when I was getting mine pulled. But, honestly, it really wasn't that bad. They numb the area with this pink stuff on a q-tip before they give you the shots, so you barely even feel the needle. And when the dentist is giving you the shots he keeps the needle down so you can't see it. When they actually get to pulling the tooth, you won't feel any pain at all. Just a lot of pressure. And you may hear some crunching noises, but that's just the ligaments that hold your tooth in your gums. There's honestly nothing to worry about!

Sevas is correct in all that she says. It really is more in your head than the actual procedure. I wish you can go to my dentist...he even sings to you while he removes your tooth...hums, tells jokes, calls you darling, sweetheart, etc. LOL You would totally love him and forget about anything you were ever afraid of. Good luck and i Hope you just go and get it over with! If your tooth is impacted, they MAY Knock you out! Which is good! You will not remember a thing.

Go and do not fear. Just remember, if you don't get those teeth out, it will hurt more in the end. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I was put asleep for it so i don't even remember it. Fear not, you will be ok.
