Add in to marriage the liberal belief in multiculturalism (other cultures allow multiple brides and child brides) and yes it is pretty broad. Further add in divorce rates, and infidelity rates, and basically marriage has no meaning anymore - it doesn't mean monogamy, it doesn't mean a long-term relationship, it doesn't mean a man and a woman . . . it is now a completely uninformative term. Frankly, the government should get out of the marriage business, since all government contributes is a poorly-formed legal marriage contract. People would be better off with a more defined contract written for their situation by a lawyer.
