Magnesium chloride is effective for relieving muscle spasms that are brought on by temporary electrolyte imbalances from sweating. I can't imagine any potential benefit for treating arthritis. When a person isn't sweating excessively, the bones provide plenty of magnesium. Magnesium levels are maintained by the kidneys within a very narrow range. Any excess magnesium taken as a supplement is rapidly removed from the blood by the kidneys.

There's no harm in trying a moderate dose of magnesium chloride. A dose of around 100 mg to 150 mg with each meal would be a moderate dose. Dosages higher than this can cause diarrhea.
