not sure what you mean by side effect, but the perks of a good friend is someone to talk to, someone to help you with decisions, motivation, and keep you in check. But you have to return the favors too, you need to listen and help them like they do you. There shouldn't be any downsides, but each person is different. I had a best friend for 17 years, but she was mouthy, couldn't keep a secret, and had to be the spotlight everything, But she helped me through breakups, failed adventures, and we had great times together. Each person is different with their ups and downs, and you will find out what those are with time.
