Do PC games in retail stores have the game ready to install or do I have to download it using a code?

I have a really slow connection at my house so it would take a week to download a big game and my IP only allows 15 gb a month.

I'm new to PC gaming and don't know if I buy a game at a store will I have to download anything other than updates?

    Depending on the game some are downloads and some on disk. Unlimited downloads are not that much more expensive.
