Compatibility of Nikon D300 lens to D3300 If I bought a lens for a D300 and later upgraded to a D3300, would that lens fit the 3300?

    So wrong!

You are downgrading! The D3300 is entry-level, bottom of the barrel model. The D300 is mid-level. Even if it's a 15-year difference, you will notice that the D300 will outperform the D3300 in so many ways.

Lens-wise, they use the same set as they have the same mount. Your old lenses will fit the new camera but take note that the D3300 will only autofocus with AF-S and AF-I spec'd lenses. If the lens does not have that spec, you will be forced to do manual focusing which is just one tiny part of the downgrading process.

    The D3300 is NOT an upgrade from a D300 - it's a significant downgrade.

Yes the lens would fit, but the D3300 doesn't have a focus motor in the body, (unlike the D300) so unless the lens is an AF-S lens, it wouldn't autofocus (you'd have to manually focus it).

Yes, it would fit. Yes, you can take photos with it. But, it depends on the lens as to whether you can autofocus with it. Here is a chart to help you with that.
