You might want to pay a bit more attention in grammar class.
Be besides that, you can go and talk to your teacher about your predicament. Let him know that your grade from last year doesn't accurately portray your math skills. Try asking for some sort of pre-assessment. If he doesn't agree. Than you should have an easier time in a slower group, and get a good grade anyways. After your teacher sees this, I'm sure he'll move you to a more appropriate group.

If you didn't do well last year, you are probably behind compared with those who worked much harder. The group you are allocated to now is likely the best one for you for the time being. Work really hard there and see if you can motivate the others to work hard too. If your teacher sees you moving ahead of the others in your present group, you may be moved to a different one.
