how come people get mad when they write a question about taking a reptile from the wild and people tell them to put it back?

what is wrong with them? i know they cant afford and or dont want to buy that reptile but really you have to ruin its life by putting it in a tank because you want to feel good about yourself? most of the time they are asking what the animal is and how to care for it so you know the reptile isnt going to live long in their care.

First, I don't necessarily believe that it is universally "wrong" to collect wild herps, provided that

    - it is legal

    - the species or population is not threatened, endangered, or otherwise unsustainable

    - the animals are for the collectors own use, rather than for commercial sale

    - the collector is willing and able to provide proper care for the animal for the rest of it's life.

Unfortunately I think that last qualification is where nearly all yahoo answers users fail. If you have to ask basic care or identification questions on yahoo answers, you are unprepared and have no business getting that animal, wild or otherwise. Many seem to be more concerned with coming up with a cool name for their new prisoner than they are in learning proper care.

I also agree with Thea that you come off as insulting; and I believe I am qualified to make that assessment, as I am considered by some to be one of the more blunt and sarcastic users here. In fact I've even been called worse.

Also keep in mind that the typical yahoo answers question is seeking validation, not information. They are only looking for somebody to tell them what they want to hear, and when they get answers to the contrary, they don't know how to react, except with insults and name calling.

Aron, you just need to be a bit more diplomatic and explain a bit more gently why keeping it is not a good idea and how wild caught reptiles often do not do well in captivity.

People react negatively to the patronizing tone of your answers and the criticism that is usually included in them
