wifi working, but not?

okay my wifi is acting super strange right now and i have no idea why.

1 it connects to the ipods/ iphones perfectly fine right next to the box, BUT take 3 steps away and it disconnects.

2 when out of the 3 steps range it'll connect and disconnect over and over. or repeatedly ask for the password.

then it will take me to the cisco error page that says

network lost

your wireless network is currently lost, an the extender is now trying to bring it back. the possible cause of the bad connection may be

unknown

in the mean time, please also check your router application settings.

3 THEN it takes me back into the original wifi join network page after a brief moment on the error page.

4 i check my network settings on my desk top and it shows my basic internet. but says there is no wifi connected.

do i have to get a new wifi box or wait this out and see if the net work returns??

this problem just popped up today.

The first step in router maintenance is to reset it. The next level of maintenance is to hard reset it which resets it to factory default.. When you do that, you have to go into the router setup and put in the wifi security key and SSID. The last thing to do is to replace it without troubleshooting first. Does the router work when connected via Ethernet? Have you just installed some other wireless device in your home that may be on the same frequency? The no wifi connected message simply means that no device is connected- It is common to have to do a simple power on reset on a router now and then. If you are using an extender, power it off until you clear the problem. The whole problem may center around the extender. To resolve the problem, turn off all extenders and devices except the laptop( it will drop off if not fully charged) and power cycle the router. If it fails, use an Ethernet cable to the laptop to assure that the ISP is working.
