Help, my insurance premium is going up to $1075 per month!?
This is for me and my husband. We are both 55 years old.
I have been buying health insurance since we became self employed over 25 years ago.
We own rental property, this is our only income.
Can I file our taxes separately and each get our own health plan?
That way one of us will qualify for ACA.

Honey, you already qualify for Obamacare. Obamacare is a law. The law says, buy health insurance or pay a fine. Everyone in the USA who files taxes, "qualifies" to pay the fine if they don't buy health insurance.
Maybe you're asking about qualifying for a taxpayer subsidy. Maybe you can - you'll have to apply to find out. Time is running out fast, so you should probably do it tomorrow.

Doubtful that you would save much. Aca sponsored companies charge reqular premiums based on limited coverage and the savings come about due to Govt subsidies for the low income.

You can get separate plans if you want; I've got clients that have separate plans because their needs are different.
Everyone qualifies for the ACA, which is the law which now regulates all health insurance in the U.S., including the plan you currently have.
You are probably thinking about the subsidy. To qualify for the subsidy if you are married you MUST file jointly. That is to keep people from filing separately just to get the subsidy.

You can each buy your own health insurance. If you purchased an ACA plan before, did you not qualify for the subsidy (or tax credit)? For a family of 4 your income can be up to $96,000.

Everyone qualifies for the ACA...I assume you are concerned about subsidies though. You can file separately and attempt this, nothing wrong there.

Everyone "qualifies" for ACA. When you buy insurance, you're buying coverage under the ACA. If you're asking if you can get subsidies, then income is calculate as "household."

Combined household income (especially for married-filing-separately) is usually how Obamacare subsidies are handled.

Yes, when you file you can file separately and that will affect the calculations on form 8962.
