Will skinny tires fit on wider rims?
I have a CX-5 and it has the OE 17" rims that are 225/65. I had a vehicle before where the winter tires on rims wouldn't bolt on because of the differing bolt pattern. Those are good tires so I want to swap them on the Mazda rims. They are 215/60/R17. Will the winter tires that are 215mm wide, fit on the Mazda rims which are optimized for 225mm wide? Any benefits or risks?

Yes, 215/60/R17 sized tires will fit on your existing Mazda rims. The benefit will be a slightly narrower tire will perform nicely in winter weather conditions because of it's better ability to "slice" through ice and snow. The risk is that the 215/60/R17 must have the same, or greater, load index and speed rating as the OE tires that came stock on your CX-5.
