you sure can. for food service purposes, you can buy frozen chopped onions and we used to use them all the time in spring when the new crops hadn't come in yet and the old crop of onions had more waste than good on them.
Keep in mind that you can also buy frozen onion rings.

Yes, you can.
It's not something I normally do because they keep well, but I do sometimes prepare and freeze some for quick use such as soups, or when I don't want a whole onion.

Yes. Slice it first and freeze it in a plastic box. Then you can just take out what you need.

You can but I see no reason to so s they are VAIOLABLE AND CHEAP ALL YEAR AROUND
