On page 154 it says: "Nobody would write editorials praising Dally. Two friends of mine had died that night: one a hero, the other a hoodlum. But I remembered Dally pulling Johnny through the window of the burning church; Dally giving us his gun, although it could mean jail for him; Dally risking his life for us. trying to keep Johnny out of trouble. This quote is pretty straight forward, just saying that Dally cared enough about Johnny and Ponyboy to risk getting thrown in jail and risking his life to save Johnny from the fire.

This is showing that Dally cares about Ponyboy and wants him to be safe while running away. He is kind of acting like a mom to Ponyboy and Johnny in this situation.

Man, I thought New York was the only place I could get mixed up in a murder rap.'" This is showing that Dally is doing the moming kind of thing again. If he didn't care about Ponyboy and Johnny he would've never left the party and risked being put in jail again just to help people.
