I don't think you have anything to worry about as kidnapping of foreigners is relatively rare in those places. Is it a group tour? If so things will be very easy and you can just follow what your guide says. You will most likely make some friendships in the tour group if you are nice and chat with people. If you are going independently than just take extra care to take not of your surroundings and don't be afraid to ask locals for help. The most likely bad thing that would happen in either case is that you would be pick-pocketed or get robbed from a snatch and grab thief. Even that is unlikely if you pay attention to your belongings and what is going on around you.
It will be a great time, happy travels!

I have traveled alone many times, and have stayed in Hostels all around the world. For your first trip I recommend some place safe that still offers adventure, and unique culture. Taiwan or Singapore are very safe, and have allot to offer. You can see many blog posts on http://exploretraveler.com/ or acruisingcouple.com for Taiwan if you want to research it out.
