Need some recommendations on a substitute for my now defunct Word program. Didn't want to spend $$ to renew Office 360 just to use Word.?

Update:

Any suggestions? I know there's a lot of smart cookies out there.

Update 2:

After weighing and testing all the suggestions, we found Open Office to be the best for me. I took RKP's advice to narrow them down. Thank you all so much for the of information, I'm so pleased, even after only having edited and saved a test document.

I knew I had come to the right place.

You people are terrific!

AbiWord is a standalone free and open source word processor. Or you can use Word Online.

LibreOffice is free (alternate version of OpenOffice) and mostly compatible with Microsoft Office.
