Hi does my husband need to pay a lawyer for a background check to be legalized and get a green card?

Update:

My husband and I have been married for six months have a little girl. I am a citizen and we've decided to get him legalized he was deported 9 years ago may this affect him in becoming a resident? He has been here 9 years. will he need to pay for a background check? How much will it be in total usually? Some people tell me it takes a year to become a citizen. He is from honduras.

You DO NOT need a lawyer to become a permanent resident in the US based upon your wife being a citizen. There ARE costs involved.

The paperwork is about as difficult as the long form for the IRS, so if you are a less educated person or have a lower IQ, you may need help filling out the forms, but it does not need to be a lawyer. It could be your minister, a teacher friend or someone like that.

Here is the website that tells all:

    https://www.uscis.gov/family/family-us-citizens/sp...

Every form is there for you to read and fill out. You will need to show that you are finiacially responcibile and you can n ot be on welfare. You need to show you can support him, should he not find wirk right away. He will need to be verified ,,,yes.....all paperwork can be done by you and there are costs involved which you must pay......but NO.....you do not need a lawyer. Any samrt high school graudate can do the work themselves. Any college graduate can do the work involved easily.

I know because I did this for my husband. Now if your husband is a felon or has terrorist ties, forget it. They do check out who he is.

Perhaps you should speak to an immigration lawyer and get all of your questions answered so you can make an informed decision based on information from someone qualified and licensed to give legal advice....
