What devices are available to prevent you from leaving a gas stove on by accident?
My husband has a bad habit of not turning the knobs on our gas stove completely off because he's in a hurry or inattentive. There is no flame, but I've come home to a house smelling like gas more than once, and I have pets at home. It's happened several times, and since me getting upset does not help him remember, I am wondering what devices are available to prevent this from happening again.
Has anyone used explosive gas detectors? I only hesitate because I've heard they are too sensitive. What about something like Burner Alert? I haven't been able to find many reviews. Unfortunately I can't afford the more expensive gadgets that shut off your stove completely like those marketed to dementia patients. Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated before my house explodes. Thanks.

Google " timer for gas stove shut off valve " you will see that the timers are not that expensive. If you or someone you know can install it, Mounting it to the wall above the stove. Run new gas lines to it. I have never used one. But it would be an easy install for me. Just the gas line from the supply line to the timer, then gas line to stove. The timers have mounting holes. If you can install the gas line from the stove to gas supply like you do when you install a gas stove, Then you could do this. It is just 2 gas lines with the timer in between.

Best way to fix that, is put a sign up that says "Honey, I love you, please check and make sure the stove is off" You may need to make several to post in different areas, but one should be on the door going outside if he is leaving he will see it.
