Is there a way I can get a Apple computer Donated?

My name is Jacob and I m a 10th grade student. I ve been interested in how technology works my whole life and you ll see me always taking things apart and putting them back together just to get an idea of how it works and it s an amazing feeling. I finally decided to pick up on it and I ve been doing a lot of research of programming languages. I happened to be at Barnes and Nobles one day and I purchased a book on Objective-C programming and it s keeping me entertained and learning more and more every second I read it. A problem that I ran into was the fact that I don t actually own a Mac and it disables my ability to write and compile the Objective-C language. I come from a family of pride and something very expensive like a Mac, my parents would never buy for me because they are all about me buying my own things. I can t simply lose $1200 to purchase an Apple computer to pursue my dream because I m saving for a car and pay my $120 phone bill every month. I eventually looked up if there was some way I could get one of these computers as a donation and couldn t find anything. The only thing I need is a Mac capable of running Xcode that stands in any condition as long as it s working. I m sure there are possibly Apple computers sitting around that failed in the factory production because of little scratches or a missing key on the keyboard and something like that is all I need. Thank you.

The UTubers you mentioned are total morons and I'll bet the stuff they destroy didn't come out of their or any company's pocket. It was found, (probably in a dumpster), or gotten some other way. (I won't say stolen, but?)

No company will "give" someone a piece of equipment so that the person can intentionally destroy it. It is NOT good for the company image! I guarantee that if someone actually had a demo unit for testing, it was not for destructive testing and was to be returned when the test was done. Should someone destroy it, I'll also guarantee that they will be blacklisted from EVER testing anything for ANY company forever! (Even those who do the magazine write ups are LOANED the equipment for the test and return it after.)

You are obviously another who believes what the uTube morons say!

As far as anyone having a "source" for free computers, let me know. I have a couple of dozen older ones still in use in my LAN because it costs too much to replace them. (and they can still do things within their operational abilities.)

Sorry. Who's going to give a $1,000+ computer away to some stranger? You can try Apple's Student Discount, but it's still going to be over $1,000 (their discounts aren't that great).

Also, you realize that you don't need a new Mac right? As long as it can run OS X El Capitan, you should be fine. And old Mac that can run El Capitan should have no problem running XCode. It's probably not going to be the best experience in the world, but it'll get the job done.

Objective-C is on the way out, Apple is pushing and transitioning to Swift.

    See:

    https://swift.org/

Try on IBM's online Swift sandbox

    http://swiftlang.ng.bluemix.net/?cm_mmc=developerW...

You'll still need a Mac eventually, but by the time you have the money to buy one, you'll probably lose this urge to learn it, might as well pick up another language, something you can use and do something with with what you have now.

If you could get one as a donation, everyone would go and get one. They won't give them away anything damaged during production would be scrapped and parts recycled. Even companies that do give away laptops give them to charities or schools, not individuals and even then they are 3-5 years old. If you really want one your best bet would be ebay or kijiji, find someone selling an old one. You will not get one for free, sorry.

One thing I don't understand is how you tubers can get these products "Brand New" and do these drop tests and just absolutely destroy them. I'm sure they aren't paying for them there self soo there has to be a source for all of this.

If want to use Objective C you do not need a Mac. Get GNUStep....

    http://www.gnustep.org/windows/installer.html

But things are moving away from Objective C and Towards Swift these days...
