How big of a tank would I need?

Okay, so I'm 17, and going to collage next year (2017). I have a 10 gallon fish tank for collage because i'm a HUGE animal person and I need something to keep me busy. It's aquascaped and has some guppies in it.

I'm starting to think about the first big tank I will get once I have my own house. I know its a long way away but if I start saving now, I will be able to get a bigger and better setup later! Heres what I would like in my Aquarium. Please let me know if its possible and what fish would be compatible with these? This tank will be aquascaped, co2 injected and filtered obviously.

I would like to have a group of 8-10 Forktail blueye rainbows

a group of 8-10 white cloud minnows

Some cherry shrimp (how many of these would I need)

and some otocinclus catfish (how many of these would I need?)

Also I would like some sort of center fish. like a gourami maybe? Would I need more than one of these?

Thanks!

Minows are coldwater fish and the others are tropical, look for a different species, maybe leopard danios, certain rasboras, or gold or Odessa barbs or checkered barbs.

Ottos should be in a shoal of 5 or more

Gourami are solitary fish, they tend to get aggressive towards each other, especially with other species of gourami. And can get aggressive with any of the other fish. I returned my paradise gaurami , he was very aggressive. But I have had better luck with most other species , 3-spot, opaline, pearl and dwarf. Another option for a center peice is an American flag fish.

A 30 gallon long should work for these fish. but a bigger tank is always better.

At least a 30 gallon is good for those fish including a paradise fish as a centerpiece. However, the centerpiece fish might want to snack on the cherry shrimp so I wouldn't get any. Add the ottos after a couple of months your tank has been established. I don't really see a need for ottos unless if you start getting diatoms. A school of at least 3 ottos is good.

suggestion: Instead of the minnows have you thought about getting cherry barbs? A nice red schooling fish adds a beautiful contrast in a planted tank.

Like everyone else said, 30 gallons would be good. But just remember; cherry shrimp breed like crazy! :)
