Does driftwood rot in an aquarium? I wanted to put driftwood in my aquarium to make the fish feal more at home but was told it would rot.?

    The real drift wood, that has been properly aged will not rot in the water. It does realese tanins, for awhile. Making the tank water harmlessly brow between water changes. If you want to avoid that, you can boil the wood or let it soak in a bucket, and dump out the water over and over until it stays clear after boiling, or after about 2 hours of soaking. But the brown is actually not a bad thing at all, I would "and have" just throw it in.

    It's not so much 'rot' as 'will the wood leach anything into the water that will kill my fish'.

    Fish stores sell driftwood that's safe for being in tanks. Check there first.

    Yes, it's wood, it will rot.

    It will make your water brown, It won't rot without oxygen.
