What is the difference between the dodge 5.7 and the dodge 5.7 hemi? 2003 dodge ram 1500.?
I am looking at a truck 2003 dodge ram and after reviewing some information learned that the 5.7 hemi has 2 plugs per cyclinder and looking some more I found that some 5.7 (or all that year and newer not sure) have a top and bottom plug? So Instead of it being next to each other like the hemi they are top and bottom.? Im sure I'm probably wrong about something but can anyone explain this?

The early 350/5.7L Dodge B block wedge engine was only around 1958 -9 ...All modern 5.7L are hemi's, though the chambers aren't really hemispherical, the two sparkplugs are across from each other in the chamber. this is the only configuration to date. To get one on top and one on bottom requires standing the head on end ( see pic), hood clearance becomes one of the limiting factors, not that it couldn't be done...vertical crankshaft engines have limited applications

It needs no explanation. What is needed is training for you in the differences in top and bottom and next to each other. I am fairly certain that even Dodge knows how to design their engines with the plugs where needed.
