    (7.0 gal) x (4 qt/gal) x (0.9464 L/qt) x (1000 mL/L) = 26498 mL = 2.65 x 10^4 mL

    I would have said 2.6 x 10^4 mL, but that's a quibble.

The trouble I have is the word "middle". What does that mean? Was there ever any danger that we might calculate the volume outside the pail?
