The actual holiday of St. Valentine of Rome is a feast day he was martyred and buried in Via Flaminia north of Rome, he died on February 14th. The term feast day is what it implies a celebration generally it was done where the Saint lived like St. Patrick in which the people of Ireland celebrating in the streets and also held feasts in honor of St. Patrick which is where the term feast day came from.

There are many stories and legends about how St. Valentine of Rome died for his faith in Jesus but no one really knows how but we do know he is a martyr.

How feast days of Saints are decided by the Church is if it's known the day when the Saint died otherwise if it's unknown the Church simply assigns a day.

Today is also People's Day as it is 7th day of the first month of the Chinese Lunar calendar and it is for the celebration of all human beings (or known as everyone's birthday).

St. Valentine is a fictitious character invented in the 18th century to celebrate lovers day because after moving to the east, they discovered that 1 unique civilization, China, has few special days to celebrate lovers: 15th day of first month of Lunar calendar, 7th day of 7th month and Mid-Autumn Festival but none of such existed in the west before the invention of Valentine day.

Virtually all of them since they are the one's who know and practice true love whilst sadly people like yourself try to ridicule love and demonstrate to others that you obviously cannot beleive in a loving god or act as if you could!

The day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). In Europe, Saint Valentine's Keys are given to lovers "as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart", as well as to children, in order to ward off epilepsy (called Saint Valentine's Malady).[6] Valentine's Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards

Hi-jacked in the Name of the 5th Century martyr, Valentine, it has nothing to do with Christianity. It was originally a Roman Holiday called Lupercalia.

It's not a religious festival at all. It was invented by Hallmark in order to sell cards.

I've never done the whole valentine day thing. Countries like France don't observe it.

I am still celebrating Darwin's day on the 12th Feb.

I still celebrate Christmas for the family aspect. I know the religious stuff is BS.

Valentine's Day is stupid. And no, I'm not single.

Not me. I'm going to go home, watch some CSI, make me a cocktail, curl up with one to three cats and pass the eff out.
