Why? What's wrong with people?

It is easy to get the false idea that the average human is fairly intelligent. We build aircraft, computers, space telescopes and immense dams. There is a very long list of wonderful things we have built, invented and discovered.

But “We” didn’t build and discover them. The vast majority of people do not know how to synthesize aspirin, extract zinc from the ground or even design a small safe bridge. Most work at simple jobs or a very small part of a complex job and do as we are told.

Only about 1 or 2 percent of people are the ones that actually do the designing and discovering. These are the ones that engineer a supertanker or skyscraper, the ones that actually get things done. Yes, the knowledge can be explained to many of the common people, but the information originated from a very few exceptional minds.

The rest of us believe in spontaneous human combustion, space aliens on Earth, astrology, telepathy or unlucky numbers …the list is endless.

Most of us don’t know the scientific method to test our ideas or even the principles of logic needed to arrive at correct conclusions (although the word "logic" is often used, incorrectly).
