Why do apps on my iPhone 5s take up more storage than they did on my iPhone 4s?

For example my Facebook app on my iPhone 4s took about 55mb but now on my iPhone 5s it takes up 558mb almost a gb!

    probably the app is bigger since it may be on a different firmware
