Molarity is the amount of moles of a substance in a one liter solution.

Since you have only 500 ml which is half a liter you would also need only half the moles of NaCl. In this case you would need 0.5 moles of NaCl.

Now you would need to convert this into grams. From the periodic table you can tell that the molar mass for NaCl is 58.5 g/mole. That is the number of grams in one mole of NaCl. Since you have of one mole you would also need only half the grams.

-You would need 29.25 g of NaCl in water with a total volume of 500 ml to make a 1 M solution

    Hope this helps!
