A neuron has an electrical charge which transmits information to other cells, how is this information stored and held within electricity?

I understand that computers use binary code to decipher information stored in the hard-drive, but how is the electrical charge decoded to pick and sort through the information. There are also things we know that we will never unlearn "assuming we stay sane", how is this information stored? Is it through constant sub conscious remembrance that it stays relevant? Or does our brain act like a hard drive which stores information in our brain leaving a physical imprint?

This is not known. A lot of research has been conducted to find the answer but we still know very little. The current main hypothesis is that we grow a new neuron every time we are presented with new information. Unused neurons die off and repetition increases the number of neuronal connections related to that piece of information.
