Are religions for moral purposes only?

I just came up with the idea that religions and their teachings are for moral purposes only. And so that we don't feel like we're here without any reason at all. So that we think we actually have a purpose. Don't you think so too?

Well - in our society religions are kind of restricted to that. We frown on them making laws - although religious morons are continually trying to do that. They never have any idea how dangerous that is for everybody.

Generally religious people are so amazingly stupid that they think if they can destroy the government and form a theocracy that THEY get to run it. It never occurs to these people that some other religion might end up running things - and once religion is allowed into the area of law, you very quickly have religious wars.

Religious people are pretty flipped out.

Not really; I think religions are a means of expression, like music or art. We have beliefs, a world view, religions give us a way to express and celebrate that.

Religion is for the individual, developing themselves spiritually, and for the community, dealing one to one with each other. Both have to do with morality.

part of the 10 commandments are don't steal, don't kill, don't lie, don't covet. these are rules to keep us honest, but also for us to live together in peace and safety.

Yup. Really, we have a built in spiritual need. There is a reason for this, but it has led every culture to come up with its own version of religion and God/gods in their attempt to find true spiritual fulfillment.

No. The reason for religion is to control. That's it.

First step in morality is to observe the law of the land you live in. Unfortunately, many religious teachers give scant respect to the law of the land. They have their own arguments for violating the law of the land they live in.

Religions are political and powerful, as well.

In such a case since all are sinners then all religions are useless.

How are you to be saved from your sin?

religion was ordained of God before the world was formed. and jesus as a high priest gave us his version of the church and religion. he ordained apostles and prphets, deacons, teachers, bishops and evangelicals.
