How would you get over this situation? Like what would you do to get over it?

You met a guy online and have been talking for months, you believe you are soul mates and talk each day on the phone (haven't met before in person) You have a lot in common, and can talk for hours, and make plans together for your future. After 5 months or so he suddenly tells you he can't be more than friends, although you are already engaged, and his reason is that he belongs to a racist religious group that doesn't accept you before your father isn't the "right" race? How would you react? Would you still love him? Imagine he has become the most important person in you life and gave up everything for him (job, etc. because you want to move to another country together)

Update:

*because your father isn't the "right" race

they say tie your happiness to goals, not things or people. Well that's why they say it. You should have kept your life and have him accompany you instead of the other way around!

I can personally hardly love someone who had no respect for my dignity and life plans. You have the right to love, but you also have the right to carry on with your life, be successful and enjoy life to its fullest without him.

I would tell him he should have thought about that in the first place, not now.
