When I go out for extended trips in to the bush, a mirrorless camera would be useless after a week due to dead batteries. I don't think technology will catch up to using no power when composing an image. I can shoot for about 3 to 4 weeks on one battery using my DSLR.

Depends upon whether mirrorless cameras are manufactured in a way that they provide the same control and capabilities (or more) than what a DSLR can do. In some ways some mirrorless cameras are good enough for professional work, but not all pro work. Still, a DSLR is the best tool for those who need fast and consistent continuous AF.

Digital viewfinders and LCD screens will never be the same as a real optical viewfinder. Having said that, it's possible that mirrorless will eventually take over for non-pro uses because fewer and fewer people will know what an optical viewfinder offers. There are many novice DSLR users today that always shoot in LiveView mode.

I agree with the answers; there are currently 2 types of people in the world (of high tech). Ones are called SLR peeps, while the others are mirrorless folks. That means something; that both are good, it's much like, oh boy, Nikon vs Canon. Uh oh!!!! Mirrorless or DSLR? That will be a new trend here??

Not if they do not in general have a good eye-level viewfinder built-in, as many do not. An eyelevel v/f is essential for using long zoom settings in photographing rapidly moving subjects, e.g. sports, some wildlife. journalistic work.

Yes, I know that you can add eye-level v/fs to some CSCs, but that becomes fiddly, and physically vulnerable to knocks in rapid action.

    Not by your chinny-chin-chin.

In fact, it might be the other way around with whatever advantage the mirrorless camera has right now being applied to the dSLR.

No.. and that is a good thing.

Many people like the size and handling of the mirrorless bodies... others can't stand them. That's fine. Why can't we have both on the market, just like we have now?

No, there's no substitute for an optical viewfinder.

I think we will have to wait eleven years to find out.
