No usually teams will sit their starters because they wan't to see players who could make the roster as well as prospects play against other good players. This can end up in the games being scores like 15-2 or 10-1 because one team might be playing more MLB players and another might be playing more minor league players.

Even if your team does amazing, it means nothing. The Astros a few years back did excellent in preseason and then collapsed the entire regular season. Why, I'm not sure.

No, it means nothing, teams have done poorly down there and have gone on to win the pennant.
