Will rims designed to fit 235 tires fit 255 tires?

I soon need some new tires for my 2001 Ford Explorer, the current tires are 255/70R16 and I don t plan to change the size when i get new ones. I would like to get new rims with them. I found some that say they fit my car, but it says the rec. tire size is for 235/70R16. I m assuming/hoping the rims will still fit but I just want to make sure before I purchase them with the new tires. Thanks!

235/70-16 is the original equipment sized tire for your Explorer that Ford determined would be best for the vehicle. You are good to go. Whoever mounted the 255/70-16 sized tire on the Explorer used an improper tire size.

we really need to know the rim size ,,..the tyre are 20mm wider ..4/5th " ..unless we know that width of rim then its only a guess
