Can I put brussel sprouts in pasta?
I usually add vegetables to my pasta sauce like mushrooms, zucchini (sometimes), baby spinach and cherry tomatoes. Can I add brussel sprouts to it? I usually only put them in stews which I only have in winter but I bought some today and have no idea what to do with them. What else could I put them in? Vegetarian recipes only please!

Half them, toss with a little olive oil, and spread in a single layer on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper.
Roast in a 400 degree oven for 30 - 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
Eat just as they are, or serve on top of pasta.
Try them this way once, and you'll never go back to mushy boiled Brussels sprouts again!

I believe that Brussels Sprouts have a rather unique flavor and don't 'put them in' anything like stews, rather I serve them as a side dish.

Vegetables_ Brussels Sprouts And Onions With Dill

1 1/2 tblsp oil
6 small white onions, about 1 inch in diameter -- peeled & quartered
12 Brussels sprouts, trimmed -- quartered lengthwise
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon minced fresh dill & 2 sprigs for garnish
In a heavy 10 inch skillet, heat oil over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking and saute onions and Brussel sprouts, stirring until onions begin to turn golden, about 1 1/2 minutes.
Add water, sugar and salt & pepper to taste and cook, covered, over moderately low heat until veggies are just tender, about 3 minutes. If any liquid remains, boil mixture until nearly all liquid is evaporated and stir in minced dill.
Garnish with dill sprigs.

a cheese sauce would go nice, a carbonara w/o bacon.
You could try making a blended salsa verde with them but thats just a guess really. Maybe a deconstucted pesto pasta, quartered brussel sprouts, pine nuts, olive oil, lemon zest, chopped parsley, basil(or any other herb you like), and shaved parmesan when plating, again this is just off the top of my head, i dont know if it'll work. Happy to help and i hope i gave you some new ideas.

Why not with pasta?
Walnut sauce traditionally accompanies pasta in the Rome region at this time of year. There are lots of recipes for veg and walnut sauce for pasta. Look at those for ideas.
What else? = you could boil them, crack them up a bit, mix them with mash and make bubble and squeak. My mother used to deliberately make extra potatoes and sprouts for the purpose of bubble and squeak for Sunday breakfast. She didn't add enough onion, then again my father and I were often left only with the smell of frying ...

you can saute them with other veggies for a side dish.
You can par boil them, dress them with a nice Italian dressing and eat them cold like pickles or marinated mushrooms.
You can brush with oil and roast them in a very hot oven so they caramelize and serve as a side dish as well.

they are great in pasta dishes!
If yours are fresh, prune the cut ends as usual, I quarter mine and toss into saute pan in butter to saute with onions and mushrooms before blending into pasta! then add any seasoning you like after that.

Why not by themselves? Cut them in half and steam them until soft. Serve plain.
