Has anyone had experience with a three legged cat?
I am fostering a cat that will probably have his right rear leg amputated. It has been paralyzed all his life. I have a 2 story house and I am wondering if he can learn to navigate the stairs or do I need to build a ramp?

My sister adopted a stray cat who'd had to have his right, rear leg amputated after a road accident. He's had no problems adapting to getting around on 3 legs and still manages to jump up onto furniture and shelves. So your foster cat shouldn't have any problems with stairs. My sister did buy her cat a high sided litter tray as she noticed that he'd been leaning against the wall for stability when using the low sided tray she'd originally bought for him. Other than that, he manages just as well as any 4 legged cat.
Cats are truly amazing. Anakin was born without a pelvis or any rear legs, but he's never let that hold him back from living life to the full;

No actual experience but know of someone who used to show a 3 legged cat in the Household Pet part of shows. You would never know he only had 3 legs till he was standing. The owner said that the cat could still get up on a scratching post.
But it could make a difference on which leg is missing. If its the back one, he could have a bit of a problem but I'm sure the cat will figure it out with very little difficulty .

He should be fine, keep an eye on him for a bit but after a while he'll get used to having three legs and will work out how to do things normally :)

I think it all depends on how much of his leg is going to be removed, and how he specifically handles stairs. I have heard that pets with a stump of the removed limb, rather than completely removing it, are more comfortable and have a better recovery. I would think that it rally depends on the individual cat though. I would wait to see how he handles the steps, and go from there. Personally, I would be hesitant to put something permanent onto the house for a cat that is not a permanent addition to the family.

He will be totally fine - three legged cats manage very well. I had one that had to have one of his legs amputated and he still managed to jump up to the top of a 7foot high fence from a standing start and easily managed the stairs

I have seen three legged cats and dogs and they don't seem to have an issue with stairs.

Stairs shouldnt be much of a challenge because remember that even though one leg is gone the cat has another 3
