How often is a cellphone updated when you have missed a call?
Sometimes my cellphone does not let me know I have a voicemail after being out of cellphone range and getting it back. Does anybody know how this works ?

Likely depends on how long you are out of range. Some phones immediately would let you know, others it may take a call in or out to bring it back in.

So how would you know there was voicemail if it doesn't tell you?
It lets you know. You've already established that. Are you talking about repeat notifications? That's done in Settings.
