Is it necessary to mail a check for an opening deposit at a bank if you intend to put a direct deposit into the account?

I opened an account at a bank, but didn't have the money at the time, so I opted to send them a check later. They gave me until april 4th to send the check.

However, I am planning to have a portion of my pay direct deposited on March 25th.

Is it still necessary to send the opening deposit check?

YES. The account needs to have an opening balance BEFORE the initial direct deposit arrives, per their initial deadline. Make the deposit, (in cash, if possible) preferably in person, not mailed, before the deadline. The account has not officially been opened (with a positive balance) at the time of the direct deposit. This would make things difficult to properly setup and verify the account prior to the direct deposit. Please make the deposit quickly to help things proceed normally.
