Are state and local tax returns the same thing?

I received a local tax return form to fill out and mail back, so I did. Then I filed my federal tax return online and it prompted me to do my state return right after. Is that also what I mailed in or something separate?

every year the tax filing season from Jan thru April 15, covers the filing of federal income tax returns, most states also require a similar filing actually the state is sort of a carryforward of the federal

your city might have a local return to be completed, that is not universal all over the country

Local means local like city, town or county. Your state return is not the same thing.

There are many cities and counties that have their own income tax system. State and local are not the same thing.

No. One is state., one is local.

No, hey're different. For example if you live in Cleveland, Ohio, your local return is to Cleveland, state is to Ohio.
