Basic Maths/Stats help??

Is (A ∪ B) ∩ (A complement ∪ B) just B? since A and A complement cancel out?

    Yes (A ∪ B) ∩ (A complement ∪ B) = B.

    Although I'm not sure about how sound the idea of A and A complement cancelling out is .

    Informally I reason as follows: It is clear that B is contained in the intersection. Also it is fairly clear that if B was not the whole intersection then A∩(A complement) would have to be not empty, which is a contradiction. So B is the whole intersection.
