The Democratic Party have READ the US Constitution (specifically the First Amendment), so understand that "Christian moral values" have no more place in US government than do Jewish moral values, Islamic moral values, or Hindu moral values....
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Democrats don't have morals or values. Everything is relative to them. For example...in their eyes, it is ok to murder an innocent child...but heaven forbid the execution of a hardened criminal...as far as they're concerned it's acceptable to ignore the rights and freedoms of Christians practicing their faith, but Muslims must be accommodated....I will say that they genuinely want to help the poor....as long a the money is coming out of your pocket, not theirs...

Besides them actually saying "I am Christian", I do not know what makes plenty of both sides Christian

Some of the social teachings of the Catholic Church are reflected in them. They fail miserably at others. Freedom of religion and dialog with Muslims is a Catholic value. Most liberal protestants and quite a few evangelicals agree.
It is better to remember that political parties are not religions and religions (in the USA) are not political parties.
