Call 211 to see if they know of homeless shelters in your area. While in the shelter you will only have a limited time to get out. So find a job ASAP then when you start getting paid you can find a motel room or something. Try some place like YMCA for low cost daycare so maybe your child support will cover than and you can pay the rent and get food stamps and/or WIC to help with food.

Dallas Housing Authority has closed waiting list for both section 8 and public housing but will be opening a waiting list soon for certain public housing complexes so check on their website frequently. I also second calling 211 for what shelters or emergency housing options there are available for you. Also go on to HUD's website and see if if any of their privately owned complexes that are funded with subsidies through HUD are taking applications for their waiting lists. Check under Rental Assistance on HUD.gov

Sometimes Salvation Army will help with the first month rent after you qualify for an apartment, but without a job that's going to be hard. You will still need to pay the deposit since they don't cover those in their assistance. Other than that, check into women's shelters.

You can try Catholic Charities but they usually only help with rent when one is getting evicted and it's a one month deal. There is section 8 housing but I have heard the list is long to qualify...at lease it is here...much further south. There are centers for abused women. You can try them to see if they can guide you or help you get a job and working so you can afford to live and there are homeless shelters. That's the best I can do.

so are you getting support from your ex for the kids? If so then that helps a lot in being able to find a place. You can ask the county, maybe like a Section 8 (in homes or apartments or even certain housing).

I don't know what disfunctional is, never had it. We used "toleration" at home.

You can certainly apply for Sec 8 housing assistance, but other than that, you are mostly relegated to local homeless shelters and similar. As well, Sec 8 housing assistance has a very long wait list. You might go after the father(s) of your children for financial support.

Without a job and child support from the children father(s) you will not be renting anywhere, so those two things need resolving first.................. other than that your family/friends or a charity
