Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000

Now add 10. What is the total?

    You've said 1000 four times ... 4000

    and then 40 30 20 and 10 .........100

    You can't do simple addition?

    5,000

    1,000 + 40 = 1,040

    1,040 + 1,000 = 2,040

    2,040 + 30 = 2,070

    2,070 + 1,000 = 3,070

    3,070 + 20 = 3,090

    3,090 + 1,000 = 4,090

    4,090 + 10 = 5,000
