    cos (2t) = cos²t - sin²t

    double angle identity

    cos(2t)=cos^2(t)-sin^2(t)

    Pythagorean identity

    1 = sin^2(t)+cos^2(t)

    1-cos(2t) = 2sin^2(t)

    cos(2t) = 1 - 2sin^2(t)

    double-angle formula:

    cos(2t) = 1 - 2sin²(t)
