Should I get my car checked out before road trip?

My car is a 2014 Ford Focus. Everything has been fine with it for the 2 years I've had it. I've driven the most about a hour with no problems but this summer some freinds and I are meeting up in Chicago. 5 hours away from me. I think it's kind of dumb to take a plane and I hate the bus so I'm driving alone. I have about 20 thousand miles and plan on getting a oil change before j go. What else should I check?

There's no reason to get all excited about a 5 hour drive in a two-year-old car. As long as you have been giving your car the proper maintenance and care all along, it won't even notice the extra distance. 5 hours is only about 300 miles. Unless your car is due for a regular oil change, there's no need to do one specially for this trip. Just do your normal maintenance and the CAR will be fine.

YOU, on the other hand, need to get yourself ready for a long drive. If you have NEVER driven long distance on Interstate highways, OR in Chicago city traffic, you're in for a rather interesting experience. Interstate highway driving is rather boring. Relax, enjoy the scenery, but stay alert. If you start feeling tired, pull into a rest stop and get out to stretch your legs.

Chicago traffic is ALWAYS busy. Be prepared for ANYTHING. Make certain you know where you are going and how to get there. You MAY want to invest in a GPS or SatNav unit to help find your way around in a strange city. Carry extra change to feed the toll booths that seem to pop up every 10-15 miles along the "freeways"

    Good Luck!

Check the cooling system , tires air pressure , windshield fluid level , fill the gas tank with quality brand name gas, good that your having the oil changed, have them check the transmission level as well - have a good safe trip both ways.
