Minecraft-Internet Speed?

I was in my dads office playing Minecraft (on a public server)on his computer and his co-workers complained about the internet being slow, emails taking long to send, ect.

So, I got blamed for making it slow and i was told to get off the computer.

Is it me or is the internet generally like that?

I was playing Minecraft with no lag, no bother (Unlike usual, at my house)

Basically, what I want to know is, Does Minecraft SLOW internet connections or not?

    It absolutely slows the internet. By how much is anyone's guess. I've never played Minecraft, so I don't know how it works (i.e. does it download anything you are missing when you connect to a server, that sort of stuff).

    Were you also playing over wifi?

    The game takes bandwidth so you can play online so it probably uses a lot. It also depends what is the speed of the Internet your father has in the office. The more Mbps the better you can play your game and your father's co-worker won't complain about slow internet.

    Minecraft requires a lot of juice, so you could easily slow down their network
