why do dogs chew on their toenails?

    It is also important because behavior therapy is unlikely to be effective if there is a medical reason for the chewing. Some potential medical causes include:

    Dogs can have allergies that cause itchy feet which can lead to excessive chewing.

    Dogs can have nail infections which can cause them to chew.

    My Pure breed Staffy does this to !

    It can be because of a number of reasons -

    They have itchy feet

    Broken nail

    Boredom and anxiety

    Potential infection

    When there is something stuck in their foot or inbetween toes

    They don't, normally, your responsibility to keep them trimmed, regularly and/or take it to a vet, for a proper diagnosis/treatment.

    Dog nails will keep on growing if you don't clip them.
