Is it possible to start liking a food that you disliked after several years of not eating it?

I'm 19 and haven't eaten a banana since I was 5 years old. I have bananas in smoothies (one's that I purchase from smoothie places) but I haven't eaten a banana by itself. Is it possible that I would like the taste of a banana again?

Yes it is very possible. Your taste changes as you get older, and for what ever reason, foods you never ate as a child, or turned on as a child, become ok to eat as an adult. I used to hate cole slaw as a kid. Not only would I not eat it and would make my mother take it off my plate if it was on there, I would also make her take the food it touched too. All of a sudden when I was in my 20's I tasted it and could not get enough of it. I have loved it ever since.

Yes, especially since you were so very young as a child. Not only have you had a chance to develop different tastes, but young children are more sensitive to flavors than adults who have lost some of their sense of taste over their life. Thus kids like more bland things and adults like more spicy. Banana seems somewhere in the middle, but it is certainly worth a try. FYI, don't start with an overripe banana. You might even ease into it with slightly green one that will be less sweet, but have a more mild flavor.

Our taste buds change and adjust like the rest of the body, so it is more than possible that a food you did not enjoy five years ago, ten years ago or as a child, will be enjoyed as an adult. The reverse can also happen, food that you enjoyed at one point during your life may not necessarily have the same enjoyment at another point of life.

Kid's taste-buds tend to be really sensitive. They can take a dislike to something, and just assume they will always hate it. But, when they get a little older and their taste-buds mellow out they find it actually tastes good now.

Your taste buds are completely new after 7 years. So every 7 years you may find you suddenly like something you didn't like before. Makes life more exciting.
