How come nobody calls gay people queers anymore...that's all I heard growing up as a kid?

    It's an offensive term. It always has been offensive but gay rights didn't start until fairly recently meaning that only recently the word has stopped being put into use.

    Things in advanced western nations changed for the better. As people grew more prosperous they sought more than just their immediate economic needs. They fought for individual rights and better quality of life. People became more educated, religious influence and stereotypes broke down, leading to many straight people opposing bigotry.
