How did the prophet (pbuh) and the early Muslims say "bye"?

South Asians say Khodahafez/Allahafez as our way to say goodbye. Obviously, this isn't how the prophet pbuh did it as the above saying is derived from Farsi.

Assalamu alaikum. In Islam we must say very simple by saying assalamu alaikum or in the most complete "assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh"when we meet and also when will go away or bye. This is our duas so we are recommended to say it and we are obliged to answer it.If we do not answer it we will have minor sin

They said Ma sala'ama or Go with Peace.

Allah hafiz is Arabic, by the way, and means May God keep you safe.

Khuda hafiz is the Parsi version.
