If you want to go online, you have to update -- you have no choice.
Otherwise, if you stay offline then you don't have to update anything until you run into a game that needs the update to work. Some games need features that are only in newer firmware.

yes you should because ps4 will be annoying telling you to update it and the more you wait the longer it will take to update so i suggest you do update it
